Combining World Time Trial Championship winning rim profiles with polka dot jersey conquering svelteness the Roval Rapide CLX Disc Front Wheel delivers maximum speed across the gamut of real-world riding conditions. Whether surging along flat valley roads or punching across energy-sapping undulations, the Rapide CLX is designed to perform with aplomb.
The full carbon rim features a front-wheel specific profile that is 51mm in depth, 35mm in external width and possesses a noticeably truncated cross-section. This advanced silhouette has been researched and executed because it yields less drag than deeper rims while experiencing 25% less steering torque during crosswinds.
In addition to its wide profile, the rim also integrates a broad internal width of 21mm. This increased girth allows clincher tyres to mate to the rim with a superior profile that further decreases drag, lowers rolling resistance and improves cornering grip.
In a bold move, Roval has manufactured this rim to be clincher tyre and standard inner tube compatible only, with no tubeless tyre compatibility offered. This decision has been taken to facilitate the lightest and fastest possible wheel and tyre configuration, which wouldn't have otherwise been feasible with the extra plies of carbon required to accept tubeless tyres.
The rim is amalgamated to the AeroFlange hub that features an oversized flange on the disc side. This hub shell is aerodynamically optimised and also offers wider bracing angles to increase lateral stiffness. Linking the rim and the hub are the DT Swiss Aerolite spokes with everything being brought together via a traditional hand-build.
A claimed weight of 649 grams and a rider weight limit of 109kg makes the Rapide CLX as a great option for a vast sweep of riders.
